Question - Supplements :

How do I know if I get enough nutrition and what kind of vitamins should I take to maintain good health?

Answer:

Hello and thank you for your question! Each person needs protein every day. Healthy people need about 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight.

Children need a bit more protein.. The amount of protein needed goes up for people who are sick. People who have fever, broken bones, or who have had surgery or an injury need about 1.5 grams of protein per kilo of body weight. It is easy to calculate how much protein you need every day. If you weigh 50 kg you would need about 40 gm of protein a day (50 kg x 0.8 gm = 40 gm). Healthy men probably need a maximum of about 70 grams of protein a day, and healthy women a maximum of 60 grams a day. Pregnant or nursing women need more, however. Three glasses of milk of 8 ounces or about 250 milliliters (ml) each contain about 8 grams of protein per 250 ml or 24 gm of protein for the 3 glasses, not enough for someone who weighs 50 kg. If you don't eat meat, you need to get your protein from other sources. Other dairy products such as cheese and yogurt contain protein as well. Fish is an excellent protein source, as is tofu. Uncooked firm tofu contains about 15 gm protein per 100 gm of tofu, and uncooked regular or soft tofu has about 8 grams per 100 gm of tofu. Cooked foods contain less protein by weight.

Beans are also a good source of protein Eggs are a good source of protein but they also contain a large amount of fat, so you should eat only about 3-4 eggs per week.

Not eating meat regularly is not unhealthy as long as you get adequate amounts of protein from other sources, and as long as you get vitamin B12 every day, since meat is the best source of vitamin B12, an essential nutrient. Fish and oysters are a good source of vitamin B12, though not as good as meat, and though milk products and eggs contain some vitamin B12, they are not as good as fish.
